Stoneleigh is set within an area of outstanding
natural beauty, and overlooks the sea at Weston
Coombe. Just down the road is the lovely regency
town of Sidmouth, boasting a beach amongst the cleanest in Britain.
The coastline from Sidmouth to the quaint fishing village
of Beer is owned by the National Trust, and this
includes the picturesque village of Branscombe,
which has a working water mill and forge, not
to mention its own brewery ! Set on the beach
at Branscombe is the thatched Sea Shanty restaurant
which is owned and run by The National Trust..
There
are a myriad of footpaths around Stoneleigh encompassing
heathland, wooded coombes, cliffs and beaches.
You can walk to the shingle beach from Stoneleigh,
less than a mile away.
Lyme Bay is now known as the Jurassic Coast due
to the dinosaur fossils found at Lyme Regis which
in turn has lead to the coastline becoming a
World Heritage Site,
as
well as being recognised in the UK as an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty.
